Located in the heart of Central Texas, Bell County offers a little bit of everything: small town charm, big city amenities, natural beauty, and a vibrant culture. Within our county are several popular tourist spots, including beautiful lakes, acres of park land, the Bell County Expo Center, and several historic museums and villages.
As of the&nbsp;census&nbsp;of 2010, 310,235 people, 114,035 households, and 80,449 families resided in the county. The&nbsp;population density&nbsp;was 295.2 people per square mile (87/km2). The 125,470 housing units averaged 88 per square&nbsp;mile (34/km2). The&nbsp;racial makeup&nbsp;of the county was 61.4% White, 21.5% Black, 0.8% Native American, 2.8% Asian, 0.8% Pacific Islander, and 5.0% from two or more races. About 21.6% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race; 14.9% were of Mexican, 3.6% were of Puerto Rican, 0.2% Cuban, and 0.2% were of&nbsp;Dominican&nbsp;descent.
Of the 85,507 households, 40.10% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.60% were married couples living together, 12.30% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.50% were not families. About 22.30% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.14. As of the&nbsp;2010 census, about 3.6&nbsp;same-sex couples&nbsp;per 1,000 households were in the county.
In the county, the population was distributed as 28.90% under the age of 18, 13.40% from 18 to 24, 31.90% from 25 to 44, 17.00% from 45 to 64, and 8.80% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females, there were 100.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.30 males. The median income for a household in the county was $36,872, and for a family was $41,455. Males had a median income of $28,031 versus $22,364 for females. The&nbsp;per capita income&nbsp;for the county was $17,219. About 9.70% of families and 12.10% of the population were below the&nbsp;poverty line, including 16.30% of those under age 18 and 9.80% of those age 65 or over.

Bell County

Bexar County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,714,773, and a 2019 estimate put the population at 2,003,554. It is the 16th-most populous county in the nation and the fourth-most populated in Texas. Its county seat is San Antonio, the second-most populous city in Texas and the seventh-largest city in the United States. Bexar County is included in the San Antonio&ndash;New Braunfels, TX metropolitan statistical area. Bexar County includes Government Canyon State Natural Area in the northwestern part of the county. Bexar County was created on December 20, 1836, and encompassed almost the entire western portion of the&nbsp;Republic of Texas. This included the disputed areas of eastern New Mexico northward to Wyoming. After statehood, 128 counties were carved out of its area.
The county was named for San Antonio de B&eacute;xar, one of the 23 Mexican municipalities (administrative divisions) of Texas at the time of its independence. San Antonio de B&eacute;xar&mdash;originally&nbsp;Villa de San Fernando de B&eacute;xar&mdash;was the first civil government established by the Spanish in the&nbsp;province of Texas. Specifically, the municipality was created in 1731 when 55&nbsp;Canary Islanders&nbsp;settled near the system of&nbsp;missions&nbsp;that had been established around the source of the&nbsp;San Antonio River. The new settlement was named after the&nbsp;Presidio&nbsp;San Antonio de B&eacute;jar, the Spanish military outpost that protected the missions. The presidio, located at the&nbsp;San Pedro Springs, was founded in 1718 and named for&nbsp;Viceroy Balthasar Manuel de Z&uacute;&ntilde;iga y Guzm&aacute;n Sotomayor y Sarmiento, second son of the Duke of&nbsp;B&eacute;jar&nbsp;(a town in Spain). The modern city of San Antonio in the U.S. state of Texas also derived its name from San Antonio de B&eacute;jar.
In 2016, for the third consecutive year, Bexar County increased the appraised value of businesses and residences. Most will hence find their&nbsp;property taxes&nbsp;will increase for the year, with higher payments for some beginning as early as November 1. The latest 7.5 percent increase in valuation follows an 11 percent rise in 2015, and a 7 percent jump in 2014. The 2016 total value for all property in the county is approximately $163 billion, or $13 billion more than in 2015. County residents express dismay to Mary Kieke, the deputy chief appraiser. "People are very upset. The tax system is absolutely broken," she said.

Bexar County

Canyon Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) in Comal County, Texas, United States. The population was 21,262 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Canyon Lake CDP includes a number of small, unincorporated communities surrounding Canyon Lake, including Sattler, Startzville, Canyon City, Cranes Mill, and Hancock. Communities located on the fringes of the CDP are Fischer, Spring Branch, and Smithson Valley.

Some of the largest cities in the region are&nbsp;Austin,&nbsp;College Station,&nbsp;Killeen,&nbsp;Round Rock, and&nbsp;Waco. The largest U.S. Army installation in the country,&nbsp;Fort Hood, is located near&nbsp;Killeen.

Central Texas 

Copperas Cove is a city located in central Texas at the southern corner of Coryell County with smaller portions in Lampasas and Bell Counties. Founded in 1879 as a small ranching and farming community, today the city is the largest in Coryell County, with 32,032 residents as of the 2010 census and an estimated 33,235 residents in 2019. The city's economy is closely linked to nearby Fort Hood, making it part of the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area. Local people usually refer to the town as just "Cove".

Copperas Cove

Coryell County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 75,388. The county seat is Gatesville. The county is named for James Coryell, a frontiersman and Texas Ranger who was killed by Comanche Indians while protecting settlers. Coryell County is part of the Killeen&ndash;Temple metropolitan statistical area. Habitation of Coryell County dates as far back as 4500 BC. The Tonkawa, Lipan Apache, Kiowa, and Comanche were among the tribes who migrated through the area at various periods. When the General Colonization Law went into effect in 1824, followed by the 1825 State Colonization Law of Coahuila y Tejas, Robert Leftwich obtained a grant to settle 800 families in Texas.The grant went through several legal challenges, and later became Robertson's Colony, named for Sterling C. Robertson. The grant encompassed all or parts of 30 present-day Texas counties Settlers began moving into the area after Fort Gates was established at Gatesville. The Texas state legislature created the county in 1854, naming it after James Coryell. Originally, Coryell was to be named Pierce County, but was changed after James Coryell's death.

San Antonio&ndash;New Braunfels (or Greater San Antonio) is an eight-county metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Texas defined by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The metropolitan area straddles South Texas and Central Texas and is on the southwestern corner of the Texas Triangle. The official 2018 U.S. Census estimate showed the metropolitan area's population at 2,550,960&mdash;up from a reported 1,711,103 in 2000&mdash;making it the 24th largest metropolitan area in the United States. Austin&ndash;Round Rock lies about 80 miles northeast of Greater San Antonio.

Greater San Antonio

The Medical Center boasts nine major medical institutions and hundreds of medical offices and is located in San Antonio, TX. San Antonio is a major city in south-central Texas with a rich colonial heritage. The Alamo, an 18th-century Spanish mission preserved as a museum, marks an infamous 1836 battle for Texan independence from Mexico. Following the San Antonio River, the miles-long River Walk is a landmark pedestrian promenade lined with cafes and shops. HemisFair Park&rsquo;s 750-ft. Tower of the Americas overlooks the city.
